The Community Impact Awards East Texas will be open to 13 East Texas counties: Angelina, Cherokee, Houston, Jasper, Nacogdoches, Panola, Polk, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, Shelby, Trinity, or Tyler.  Individuals may nominate a resident or organizations that live, volunteer, or operate in one of the 13 counties in each of the following categories:

• Nonprofit
• Volunteer
• Business
• Philanthropist

Nomination forms are available at Brookshire Brother Stores in these counties, in a downloadable format at ciaetx.com, and at the KSWP/KAVX studios in Lufkin.  Completed nomination forms are due by Saturday, June 1, 2013.

A Host Committee made up of East Texas Leaders and sponsors announced the 2013 Community Impact Awards at a press conference noon on May 9^th at the Crown Colony Country Club in Lufkin, Texas.

Change agents come in all shapes and sizes. Unselfish service, sacrifice and commitment describe the characteristics of a handful of local citizens and honored companies (and company initiatives) each year who lead the way and make a positive impact on the East Texas communities. Moved by the need to celebrate the East Texas and its values, citizenry and life, two community-based, non-profit radio stations, KSWP and KAVX, have established the Community Impact Awards in four categories:

• Outstanding Non-Profit Organization of the Year
• Outstanding Volunteer of the Year
• Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year
• Outstanding Business of the Year

The Community Impact Awards Gala took place on Thursday, October 27, 2011. The Award Gala was a huge success. What an honor to recognize such leaders in the area that are making a difference.

Reverend Bettie Kennedy

Reverend Bettie Kennedy, recipient of the Community Impact Award for outstanding Volunteer of the Year, causes others to search within themselves to work as diligently as she has to promote God, family, and community.

Etch

The Community Impact Award for outstanding Business of the Year went to Etch, leading the way in promoting community service and encouraging employees to give back to the area community; thus creating a stronger organization and work environment. Etech

Love INC

Love INC, Love in the name of Christ, in Lufkin and Nacogdoches is the recipient of the Community Impact Award for outstanding Non-Profit of the Year and is recognized for impacting the lives of the needy and disadvantaged in the area; showing love “by our actions.”

Dr. Neal Naranjo

Dr. Neal Naranjo received the Community Impact Award for outstanding Philanthropist of the Year by making a difference in the surrounding communities with a passion for education and a relentless pursuit in providing opportunities for every citizen, through health care, collegiate education, and community park improvements.

The 2012 Award Gala was held at the Lufkin Pitser Garrison Convention Center on Friday, August 10, 2012, 7pm-9pm. It was a wonderful night of getting to know different civic and community leaders from the area.

The hostess for the evening was Demetress Harrell. Special guest award presenter was State of Texas and District 19 Representative the Honorable James White.

Woody Harrison

Woody Harrison, recipient of the Community Impact Award for outstanding Volunteer of the Year. He is a man of integrity. He works for religious freedom and recognition of God in the community. As a US Veteran, he has the utmost respect for our flag, our cross, and our citenzry.

Brookshire Brothers

The Community Impact Award for outstanding Business of the Year went to Brookshire Brothers, leading the way in promoting community service and encouraging employees to give back to the area community; thus creating a stronger organization and work environment.

Westminster Presbyterian

Westminster Presbyterian Church in Nacogdoches is the recipient of the Community Impact Award for outstanding Non-Profit of the Year . Westminster Presbyterian Church is recognized for founding multiple organizations fulfilling unmet needs in the community and for their commitment to joyfully giving their time and resources to numerous organizations locally and abroad.

Dan Ellis

Dan Ellis of Livingston is the recipient of the Community Impact Award for outstanding Philanthropist of the Year. Mr. Ellis has a passion, not only for East Texas, but for the US Military. He is the co-founder of FAITH (Family and Individuals Thanking Heroes) providing support for Military families in the area and care packages for military personnel, both overseas and stateside.

Firefighter Award

During the Community Impact Awards a very special presentation was made by Texas Governor Rick Perry; recognition of the Volunteer Fire Departments in the surrounding counties of Angelina, Cherokee, Houston, Jasper, Nacogdoches, Panola, Polk, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, Shelby, Trinity, and Tyler.

The 1st Annual Community Impact Awards Gala took place on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches on Thursday, October 27, 2011. The Award Gala was a huge success. What an honor to recognize such leaders in the area that are making a difference.

On August 10, 2012, the 2nd Annual Community Impact Awards Gala was held in the Pister Garrison Civic Center, which is now the Pister Garrison Covention Center, in Lufkin. Once again the Award Gala beamed a spotlight on some of the best men and women in the area that are making a difference in the lives of so many others.

The 3rd Annual Community Impact Awards Gala will be held this year on August 16, 2013 in the Ballroom on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches.
